"I love shopping your site. The selection is great, the quality is unsurpassed, and the personal service is superb."
At A&L HOME we have brought together a collection of home goods that are elegant, unique and fun. We hope you will enjoy our collection and that you will look to us for that special gift or unique item that makes any room special.
We are Gray and Persephone and we opened our shop Agatha & Louise in Portland Maine’s Old Port in May of 2005. Agatha & Louise is a specialty shop filled with beautiful, unique and elegant decorative items for dog lovers like us. We specialize in dog breed specific needlepoint pillows and bags, soaps, jewelry, plates, hood ornaments, house signs and other specialty dog lover merchandise. We launched www.agathaandlouise.com in 2006 and we have been happily “mailing dogs”, as our daughter Posie says, ever since.
While satisfying our dog friends, we are continually asked where to find our product without the dogs. With that in mind we launched A&L HOME in 2009. We have included many of our most popular items from Agatha & Louise like our House Signs, Hood Ornaments and Sterling Silver Charms. We have expanded our popular Needlepoint and Decoupage Collections as well as our Holiday offerings. We will continue to add beautiful and unique products and are excited to be able to bring you the best of both dog related and non-dog related merchandise!
There are two dogs in our Agatha & Louise logo, an Irish Terrier and a Pug. They are called Agatha and Louise. Agatha is the Irish Terrier and she is named after Gray's late mother Agatha who bred Irish Terriers. Louise is the Pug and she is named after Persephone's grandmother Louise. Louise had many dogs including a Pug called Flirt. Our dogs are wearing pearls because Louise left Persephone a beautiful string of pearls and all ladies look elegant in Pearls!
Agatha & Louise loved their dogs and taught us to love dogs too. They also loved beautiful things and had many decorative items in their homes with and without dogs. Because of their love of dogs and their beautiful collections of antiques we thought it was perfectly fitting to name our shop after these two women who we loved very much.
